This cocktail comes to us from Monaco, the place of the Grand Prix and James Bond. Its main ingredient is a bitter orange liqueur called L’Orangerie. My version is made with triple sec—a little easier to come by—and lime juice for the bitter, and it comes together in minutes. It is best shaken, not stirred.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces triple sec or Grand Mariner
  • 2 ounces dry gin
  • 2 ounces passion fruit juice
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • Lime wheel or orange slice, for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  2. Add all the ingredients, except for the garnish, and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Pour into large, stemmed cocktail glasses and garnish.

Notes

  • It is very important to use fresh lime juice in this cocktail.
  • If you cannot find passion fruit juice, orange or mango juice is a fine substitute.
